At this time, no AMC series was averaging better than one million target viewers in the demo per season, so the call was surely an ambitious one at the time. Season One of The Waking Dead averaged nearly three million target viewers (as projected above), and of course went on to more than double that delivery, and become the top rated scripted series on television.
